Description

(yay for random unimaginative titles)

Here's a surprise fan art for *The-Ez! Happy birthday! :dummy:

It's based on her beautiful drawings and great story. Go read it! Or view the art!
← chapter 1

In short the guy on the left is Chester Gangfield, a stage magician (one that knows actual magic I should add) that can rarely be seen without his pet rat Dennis. To the right are the Wythert siblings. Theodore is a craftsman that makes furniture, and he lives with his sisters Emily and Little Lynnie.

When I was brainstorming about what kind of scene to depict (because I wanted something more than a boring pair of waist-ups or something) one of the things that came to mind was this scene. Chester making a chair disappear, entertaining the girls and making Theodore worry whether Chester could bring his hard work back. Dennis is in Little Lynnie's hands because I imagined her to be the kind of girl that would like a pet rat scurrying on her arms. Chester's pose might be a bit out of character, but whatever. It's funny. :P

Boy, this was quite the exercise, though. Some things didn't come out as well as I had hoped, and others took way too long. Unreferenced poses, proportions, intercharacteral proportions (if that's even a word), picking colors, emulating other people's art styles, just to name a few things I had a hard time with. And I was lazy with the hands, too. Took about 8 hours, of which definitely more than half was sketching. But in the end I like the result, and that's what counts!

Firstly: I LOVE how you captured Ez's characters' personalities! The colors and everything are super beautiful, too. My favorite part, though, is how you drew everyone's hands! Especially the littlest girl (wasn't her name Lynnie...?). Also, the way you did the vanishing chair is both original and it makes a whole lot of sense--great job! My biggest (and really my only) suggestion to you would be this; make your lines bolder! I've only recently started doing this with my own work, and it's made a world of difference. Outlining your work can be a bold (and often much needed) step to giving your art a lasting impact on your viewers. Just a thought!
